Park City Embraces Oral Health

IMG_1223Park City is Embracing Oral Health like no other community ever before.

Park City now has a flossing and brushing after lunch pilot project at McPolin Elementary School. At the beginning of the project, the teachers were reporting some gum bleeding but by the end of the second week, the bleeding was all gone. The addition of an after lunch flossing and brushing reduced the bacterial load which in turn helped improve gum health. A parent, Kate Boyd, even came to thank me in the grocery store (while her son, Grayson McChesney, hugged me) for spearheading the project. Kate stated that Grayson is now a lot more excited about brushing his teeth at home.

Since last week, Julie Hooker’s Leadership I Class at Treasure Mountain Junior High School is feverishly preparing to celebrate World Oral Health Day in grand style with a Floss Off. Thanks to their efforts, will have well over 1000 people flossing their teeth together Friday morning at 9:10 AM. Next year we’ll plan it earlier so that we can go after a Guinness record.

The Leadership I students took care of organizing everything. They made a video on the proper techniques of flossing complete with editing and adding a sound track. The video will be shown to all participants ahead of time for flawless flossing this Friday and every day thereafter. They prepared media releases. They prepared packages filled with floss picks, recycling bags and instructions and labelled them for delivery to each classroom. That made posters and distributed them in the schools. Now I simply can’t wait for Friday!

In alignment with its mission of “Making Oral Hygiene as Accessible as Hand Hygiene”, TeethFirst donated all the floss-picks for this special event.

This event will put Park City on the Global radar as a city who cares about oral health. Park City School District rocks!
