TeethFirst Takes its First Steps in Park City, Utah

TeethFirst was busy in February, the National Children Dental Health Month. To celebrate, TeethFirst gave a week of Oral Health presentations to the Grade 2 students of McPolin Elementary School who each also received an OralB Pro-Health Stages toothbrush, Crest Pro-Health toothpaste, Reach Waxed floss and a tooth shaped 2 minute timer.

Each session began with a Keynote presentation loaded with colourful visuals designed by Dr Marielle Pariseau. The presentation customized for Grade 2 students (from the original piece titled TeethFirst for senior elementary students) is an educational and interactive presentation complete with a secret code to share important knowledge about teeth. It inspires the students to make healthy choices for healthy smiles and, as a result, a healthy life. Hands on experiments with sweet drinks and sugar followed. We ended each session with group flossing and brushing. Thank you Johnna Roussos for making this possible!

TeethFirst is also partnering with PCCAPS‘ engineering department since the end of January to develop prototypes for a new disposable oral health instrument, a dispenser and recycling bin for said instrument. For their background research work, the students interviewed the stakeholders at McPolin Elementary school and will be interviewing Recycle Utah on March 2nd. The purpose of the research is to translate essential knowledge into the production of environmentally responsible disposable products that will serve the end users in the best possible way.

On March 3rd, in collaboration with McPolin Elementary school, TeethFirst will launch its first Pilot Project: a daily after lunch supervised flossing and brushing program for the Kindergarten students under the stellar supervision of Denine Therrien and Genevieve Mullins.

TeethFirst is taking the first steps in making oral hygiene as accessible as hand hygiene, putting oral health on the map. Stay tuned: there is more to come.
